Defining a football philosophy together with Flamengo

At Double Pass we assess and advise football clubs, leagues and (con)federations with the aim to optimise their talent development. When clients call on our advisory expertise, our consultants physically visit Football Academies to analyse their philosophy, processes, departments, training sessions and games for a certain period in order to deliver an in-depth analysis report.

Once the report is presented, we return to the Academy and based on their needs we provide them specific support. Together with the Academy Director and the coaching staff we focus on their working points and needs and based on the culture or ideas of the Club or Academy, we design a supportive work procedure. During our visit at the Academy, we organise lectures, workshops and demo sessions on the pitch. We coach the Academy staff members and give them specific assignments. Furthermore, we stimulate, co-create and push them to take ownership and develop their football story, from the (theoretical) philosophy all the way to the (practical) pitch, from the team all the way to the individual player…

Early September, we went for the 7th time to Brazil, more specifically to Rio de Janeiro for a consulting assignment at Club De Regatas Do Flamengo. In the past year, we took a big step forward with the Academy, starting with the topic Club Management and revising the mission and vision statement of the club. A meeting structure was set-up for the different departments and a technical board meeting was installed. On the football part we started with the development of the team by revising the Style of Play and defining the whole football philosophy. We wrote a curriculum for the different age-groups and discussed the practical part.

Finally, we wrote an Academy plan where all the different aspects of the Academy were collected involving different Double Pass experts (performance, mental, goalkeeping…)  who co-created the content together with the Flamengo experts.

A fascinating journey, which starts from the local culture with ideas that are developed together with the local staff members.
